Questions Homeowners Ask Before Booking a Remodel.
Straight answers, no marketing fluff. If your question isn't answered here, call us at (248) 980-1507 — we'll tell you the truth, even if it means we're not the right fit.
Getting Started
How we begin every project
Book a free consultation by calling (248) 980-1507 or submitting the form on our contact page. We'll schedule a 20-minute discovery call, then visit your home for an in-person measure and design consultation.
Yes. The consultation, measurements, and written proposal are all free with no obligation. You only pay when you sign a contract for the actual work. There's no fee to see a design concept or receive pricing.
Design consultations typically book within 5–7 business days. Construction start dates run 4–8 weeks out depending on season and project size. Spring and early fall are our busiest windows — book early to lock in your preferred dates.
We serve Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties within 35 miles of our Macomb headquarters. See our full service area list for every city we cover, or call us to confirm your address.
We occasionally work with out-of-state clients who are relocating or managing investment properties in Southeast Michigan. There's a 10% project management surcharge for remote coordination, and we require a local point of contact for site access.
Pricing & Payments
What things cost and how you pay for them
In Southeast Michigan in 2026, our typical kitchen projects range from $28,000 (refresh) to $130,000+ (luxury build), with most clients landing between $65,000 and $110,000 for a full remodel. Full pricing breakdowns are on our kitchen remodeling page.
Guest bath refreshes run $14,000–$24,000. Primary bath remodels with layout changes run $28,000–$52,000. Luxury primary suites with steam showers and stone slabs start at $65,000. See details on our bathroom remodeling page.
Open rec rooms run $38,000–$62,000. Full finished basements with bath and bedroom run $65,000–$115,000. Luxury retreats with theater and gym start at $140,000. See our basement remodeling page for full tier breakdowns.
Yes. We collect a 30% deposit at contract signing to cover materials ordering and permit filing. Two additional 30% draws are due at project milestones (rough-in complete, finishes complete), with the final 10% due 7 days after your sign-off on the punch list.
Yes. We partner with three lenders offering terms from 6 to 144 months. Pre-qualification takes under five minutes and doesn't affect your credit score. See our financing page for full details and a payment calculator.
Yes. Once you sign, the price doesn't change unless you request a scope change. Our average final invoice varies less than 3% from the original proposal — and in most cases that's because clients added something mid-project, not because we overcharged.
Check, ACH transfer, and major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). Credit card payments carry a 2.9% processing fee, which we pass through at cost. Checks and ACH have no additional fees.
Timelines
How long projects actually take
Typical full kitchen remodels take 6–10 weeks of construction, plus 3–4 weeks of design and permitting beforehand. Cosmetic refreshes run 3–4 weeks. Total from first call to finished kitchen: usually 9–14 weeks.
Most guest baths finish in 2–3 weeks of construction. Primary baths with layout changes take 3–5 weeks. Total project time including design and permits is usually 6–9 weeks.
Full basement finishes take 5–9 weeks of construction. Larger multi-zone builds with full bathrooms and legal bedrooms run 10–12 weeks. Total project time including design, permits, and moisture assessment is usually 10–16 weeks.
Most commonly: material backorders (especially custom cabinetry and stone), permit processing time, inspection scheduling, and hidden issues discovered during demo. We plan buffer time for each and notify you the same day if any risk appears.
If we're behind schedule for any reason within our control, we present a recovery plan in writing within 24 hours. We've delivered 98% of projects on-time or early over the last three years, but when we miss, we own it and compensate accordingly.
During Construction
What to expect while work is happening
Yes, in nearly every case. We section off the work area with plastic barriers, run HEPA air scrubbers, and clean the site daily. For whole-home projects, we may recommend short-term relocation for a few days during major dust-producing phases — but this is rare.
Standard construction hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. We avoid loud work before 9 AM out of respect for neighbors. Weekend work only happens with your advance approval.
Through our client portal, by text, by phone, or by email — whichever you prefer. Your PM sends a daily photo update via the portal by 6 PM every working day. Responses to direct messages come within one business hour.
Yes, with some limits. Paint colors, hardware, and light fixtures can usually be changed with minimal cost if selected early. Structural changes or cabinet modifications after ordering are expensive and slow the project. We'll always tell you the cost and schedule impact before you approve any change.
Active BrightForge clients have access to a 24/7 emergency line for water leaks, electrical issues, or security concerns. The number is provided in your project portal and posted at the job site.
Permits & Code Compliance
What we handle and what it means for you
Yes. BrightForge files all required building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical permits through your local municipality. You never have to call the building department or coordinate inspections yourself.
Yes. Permit fees and inspection scheduling are included as line items in your proposal. No surprise bills later.
This is common in older homes. We identify unpermitted work during the in-home measure and discuss options: correcting it to code, disclosing it as-is, or remediating it as part of the project. We won't build on top of work that could fail inspection later.
Every BrightForge crew lead holds current EPA Lead-Safe RRP certification, required for any home built before 1978. If we suspect asbestos, we pause work, recommend a licensed abatement specialist, and resume only after clearance.
For interior remodels, usually not. For exterior changes (additions, window changes, exterior finishes), you'll need HOA approval. We can provide documentation, drawings, and material samples to support your application.
Warranty & After Care
What happens after the project ends
All labor carries a 5-year workmanship warranty. Manufacturer warranties on materials and appliances transfer directly to you and typically run 10 years to lifetime. You receive all warranty documentation in your project portal at handoff.
Call us at (248) 980-1507. If it's covered under the workmanship warranty, we schedule a repair visit within 5 business days at no cost. If it's a manufacturer defect, we help you file the warranty claim and coordinate the replacement.
Yes. We schedule a 30-day check-in call and a 12-month in-person follow-up. These aren't sales calls — they're quality assurance to confirm everything still works the way it did on day one.
Living Through the Remodel
Practical tips for real life during construction
Not the kitchen itself, but we set up a temporary kitchen station (microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker, hot plate) in an adjacent room so you're never completely without. Most families find 6–8 weeks of roughing it is worth the result.
We keep gates closed, tools secure, and work areas blocked with barriers. If your pet is anxious around noise, we can schedule the loudest phases (demo, tile cutting) in defined time windows so you can plan around them.
Yes. We use heavy-duty floor protection (Rosin paper, Masonite, or Ram Board), corner guards, and plastic sheeting along all traffic paths. All furniture in adjacent rooms is covered and moved if needed.
We install zip-wall barriers between the work zone and living space, run HEPA air scrubbers 24/7 during dusty phases, and use dust-collecting attachments on all cutting tools. You'll still see a little dust — but nowhere near what a typical remodel produces.
